This Privacy Policy describes how Check My Roof, an online software service operated from Sacramento, California, collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you visit or use checkmyroof.ai (the "Service").

1. Information we collect

• Information you submit: email address, home address, uploaded photos, uploaded estimates or other documents when you use the free tools or purchase a paid product.
• Payment information: processed entirely by Stripe, Inc. We do not see or store your full card number. We retain the last four digits, the card brand, the transaction amount, and the order ID for receipts and accounting.
• Usage data: standard server logs (IP address, user agent, referrer URL), and product analytics events collected via PostHog (page views, feature usage, conversion events).
• Cookies: essential session cookies during checkout and authentication, and first-party analytics cookies.

2. How we use your information

• To provide the Service you requested (run an audit, generate a document template, etc.)
• To deliver email receipts, account notifications, and any reports you purchased
• To route lead notifications to licensed roofing contractors who subscribe to our Contractor plans, only when you explicitly opt in
• To improve the Service through aggregated, anonymized analytics
• To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our Terms
• To comply with legal obligations

3. What we do NOT do

• We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
• We do not share your specific claim or estimate documents with anyone except contractors you explicitly route to.
• We do not show third-party advertising on the Service.
• We do not use your data to train any general-purpose AI model.

4. Third-party processors we use

• Stripe — payment processing (Stripe's privacy policy)
• Vercel — website hosting and serverless compute
• Resend — transactional email delivery (receipts, report delivery)
• Anthropic — AI-assisted document analysis (when enabled)
• PostHog — product analytics (anonymized usage data)
• Mapbox — address autocomplete (when enabled)
• Regrid — public parcel data lookups (when enabled)

5. California residents (CCPA / CPRA rights)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights:

• Right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
• Right to delete your personal information, subject to legal exceptions.
• Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
• Right to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
• Right to limit use of sensitive personal information.
• Right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@checkmyroof.ai with your request. We will verify your identity before responding. We respond within 45 days as required by California law.

6. Data retention

Lead and account information is retained until you request deletion. Purchase records and receipts are retained for seven (7) years for tax and accounting compliance. Uploaded estimates and photos are processed in memory and not retained long-term unless required to fulfill a Concierge or Contractor service you purchased.

7. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS/TLS in transit, encryption at rest for sensitive credentials, and access controls on production systems. No system is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, email us and we will delete it.

9. International users

The Service is hosted in the United States. By using the Service from outside the U.S., you consent to transfer of your information to the U.S., which may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.

10. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be announced on the Service or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates the most recent revision.
